Does Your Phone Support
eSIM in Bali?
Check in 30 seconds. You need a local +62 number to book motorbike taxis, order food to your villa, and pay cashless at markets in Bali — here's how to verify your phone supports eSIM, and what to do if it doesn't.
The Short Answer
Yes — most phones made after 2018 support eSIM. iPhones XS and later, Google Pixel 3+, Samsung Galaxy S20+, and most Android flagships are all compatible. To check yours: open Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM. If that option exists, you're good. If not, order a physical SIM card instead — it works in any phone with a SIM slot.
eSIM or physical SIM — which fits your phone?
We offer both — eSIM (sent by email before you fly) and physical SIM (delivered to your hotel in Bali). Both give you the same local +62 number. Your phone tells us which path makes sense.
eSIM works for you
Your phone checks out and it's unlocked. You'd rather have everything sorted before you land — scan a QR code at home, arrive in Bali already connected.
How to buy an eSIM in BaliPhysical SIM is better
Not every phone plays nicely with eSIM — and that's fine. A physical SIM delivered to your hotel gets you the same +62 number, registered in person with no document uploads.
Why carrier lock matters in Bali
If you bought your phone on contract, there's a decent chance it's carrier-locked — meaning it'll only accept SIMs from your home carrier. This doesn't mean you can't use eSIM in Bali. It just means there's one extra step first.
Call your carrier and ask them to unlock your phone. It's usually free once you're out of contract and takes a few minutes over the phone. Once done, your phone accepts any eSIM — including ours.
Unlocked phones
Bought directly from Apple, Google, or Samsung? You're probably fine. No contract usually means no lock — your phone will accept any eSIM.
Carrier-locked phones
Bought through AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, or a similar carrier? Call them and ask for an unlock. Usually free once you're out of contract — done in minutes.

How to check if your phone supports eSIM
iPhone
Go to Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM
You don't need to complete any setup — just check if the option is there. If "Add eSIM" shows up, your iPhone is good to go. If it's nowhere to be found, you're likely on an iPhone X or earlier — those don't support eSIM, and a physical SIM is the way to go.
eSIM iPhones: XS (2018), XR, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, SE 2nd gen and later
iPhone 14 and 15 (US models): No physical SIM slot at all — eSIM is your only option. If you have a US-purchased iPhone 14 or 15, you must order our eSIM, not the physical SIM card.
Android (Samsung, Google Pixel, OnePlus, Motorola, etc.)
Go to Settings → Mobile networks → Add eSIM (or Cellular → Add eSIM on some phones)
Android menus vary by brand, so the exact path may look slightly different. Look for "Add eSIM", "Add carrier", or "Dual SIM". If the option exists, you're set. Most Android flagships from 2021 onwards support eSIM — older models and budget phones often don't, so the Settings check is your best bet.
eSIM Android phones:
- • Google Pixel: Pixel 3 and later
- • Samsung Galaxy: S20, S21, S22, S23, S24, Z Fold 2+, Z Flip 3+
- • OnePlus: 9, 10, 11, 12 and later
- • Motorola Edge: 2021 models and later
Check if your phone is carrier-locked
iPhone: Settings → General → About → look for "Carrier Lock"
Android: Settings → About → look for "Carrier Lock" (varies by brand)
If it says "No SIM restrictions": Your phone is unlocked — it will accept our Bali eSIM. If it shows a carrier name: Your phone is locked. Call your carrier to unlock it.
Quick reference — which phones support eSIM
| Brand | Models with eSIM | Compatible |
|---|---|---|
| Apple iPhone | XS (2018), XR, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, SE 2nd & 3rd gen and later — all regions | Yes |
| Google Pixel | Pixel 4 and later (all regions). Pixel 3 & 3a: eSIM works on most models but not Verizon or some Asian variants | Yes |
| Samsung Galaxy | S22, S23, S24, Z Fold 5+, Z Flip 5+ (unlocked/international). S20 & S21 had inconsistent support. A-series (A54, A55 5G) — some models support eSIM, verify yours. Chinese/Korean variants: often no eSIM | Yes |
| OnePlus | 9, 10, 11, 12 — unlocked/international variants only. Chinese ROM versions have eSIM disabled | Yes |
| Motorola | Razr 5G and later Razr models confirmed. Edge series: verify your specific model — support varies | Yes |
| Older phones | iPhone X and earlier, Android phones before 2020 | No |
Regional variants matter. The same phone model can ship with or without eSIM depending on where it was purchased — especially Samsung and OnePlus. The Settings test (Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM) is always more reliable than this table. Not sure? Ask us and we'll check for you →
Your phone doesn't support eSIM?
No problem. Order a physical SIM card instead. We deliver to hotels and villas across Bali (Kuta, Denpasar, Canggu, Ubud, and more). When it arrives, bring your phone and passport to the meeting — our staff handles the entire registration and activation on the spot. No document uploads, no waiting for QR codes. You'll walk away with a working +62 number — ready to book rides, order food, and pay cashless around Bali.
Physical SIM works in any phone with a SIM card slot — even older phones, feature phones, or second devices.
Questions about eSIM compatibility
How do I know if my phone supports eSIM?
Open Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data on Android) → Add eSIM. If this option appears, your phone supports eSIM. If the option doesn't exist, your phone doesn't support eSIM. You can also check your device's spec sheet online, but the Settings test is definitive.
What is a carrier lock and why does it matter?
A carrier lock means your phone is tied to your home carrier (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.) and won't accept eSIM profiles from other carriers. Phones bought on contract are usually carrier-locked. You can contact your carrier to unlock it — it's usually free once your contract is paid off. Unlocking takes a few minutes.
What if my phone doesn't support eSIM?
Order a physical SIM card instead. We deliver to hotels and villas across Bali. You bring your passport and phone, our staff registers and activates the SIM on the spot — no document uploads, no waiting. Physical SIM is faster for some travelers.
Can I use an eSIM and my home SIM at the same time?
Yes — most phones support dual SIM (one physical SIM + one eSIM active at the same time). You can keep your home number active for calls while the Bali eSIM handles data. Both numbers ring simultaneously, so you won't miss anything.
What about dual physical SIM phones (no eSIM)?
Some phones have two physical SIM slots but no eSIM. In that case, you can buy a physical Bali SIM and keep your home SIM in the other slot. It works the same way — both numbers active at once.
Can I use this eSIM in other countries after Bali?
No — this is an Indonesian Telkomsel eSIM designed for use in Bali and Indonesia. It won't work outside Indonesia. For multi-country travel, consider an international eSIM like Airalo instead.
What if I have an older phone — should I upgrade?
Not necessarily. We offer physical SIM cards (delivered to your hotel) that work in any phone with a SIM slot. If your current phone works in Bali, a physical SIM is a good fit. You only need eSIM if you prefer digital delivery and installation before departure.
