Get a Real Indonesian eSIM
for Your Bali Trip
Order Gojek, GoCar, Grab, food delivery — all of it runs on a local Indonesian number. Here's exactly how to get one before you land.
Who this Bali eSIM is for
GetBaliSIM gives you a real local Indonesian number on the Telkomsel network. That's a different product from international travel eSIMs — and it matters for how you'll use your phone in Bali.
Gojek & GoCar
Bali's most popular ride-hailing app — motorbike taxis (ojek) and cars, all cheaper than metered taxis. Registration requires an Indonesian +62 number for SMS OTP. Foreign numbers are known to fail — the verification code never arrives.
GoFood & GrabFood
Food delivery apps that bring meals from hundreds of Bali restaurants to your villa or hotel. Both platforms use your local number to confirm orders and let couriers contact you directly.
Grab & GrabCar
Alternative to Gojek — cars, bikes, and deliveries across Bali. SMS OTP works far more reliably with a local number, and drivers call your registered number when they arrive.
OVO
Indonesia's most widely accepted e-wallet — tap to pay at restaurants, markets, and shops across Bali. Only accepts Indonesian phone numbers for registration, no exceptions.
DANA & GoPay
Popular QRIS e-wallets used everywhere in Bali for cashless payments. Both require SMS OTP verification during sign-up, which only works reliably with a local +62 number.
Calling locals
Bali villas, tour guides, clinics, and restaurants all use 08xx local numbers. Calling them from a local number is cheaper, more direct, and doesn't depend on internet quality.
Also useful: Emergency services (dial 112) work on a local SIM without depending on international roaming. Any Indonesian app that sends SMS verification — booking confirmations, clinic appointments, local banking — works with your +62 number.
This is NOT for you if…
You just need mobile data
If you won't use Gojek, Grab, or OVO, an international eSIM from Airalo or Klook is a better fit — instant setup, no documents. We'd rather you have the right tool than buy from us and be frustrated.
You don't want to upload documents
Our SIM card option is a better fit — no uploads at all. Just bring your passport and phone to the delivery meeting and our staff handles everything on the spot.
Why your passport is required
Because you're getting a real Indonesian phone number, the Ministry of Communication (Permenkominfo) requires it to be registered against a valid passport and device IMEI. This is exactly the same process an Indonesian resident goes through to get a SIM — except we handle the entire submission for you.
Any seller that skips this step is not legally registering your SIM. That means it can be blocked by the carrier at any time after purchase — often without warning.
Same rules as Indonesian residents
Every prepaid SIM in Indonesia — local or tourist — must be registered. There are no exceptions and no workarounds.
We handle the submission
You upload three photos. We submit them to Telkomsel, complete registration, and send you confirmation. You don't need to visit any store.
Documents deleted after 7 days
Once your eSIM is activated, your passport and IMEI photos are permanently deleted from our storage. We have no reason to keep them after registration is done.
What to prepare
We know — photographing your passport and uploading it to a website you've never heard of is not a comfortable ask. But this is a real Indonesian phone number, and registering it works exactly the same as it does for an Indonesian resident: ID required, no exceptions. We handle the submission to Telkomsel. Your files never leave our private storage, never get shared, and are deleted 7 days after your eSIM activates.
Private vault — deleted after 7 days
Stored in a private, access-controlled vault. Never publicly accessible. Only shared with Telkomsel for registration. Permanently deleted within 7 days of activation.

How to buy an eSIM in Bali — step by step
From ordering to being connected — here's exactly what happens.
Check your device is eSIM-ready
Your phone must support eSIM and be unlocked (not carrier-locked). Most iPhones from XS (2018) onwards, Google Pixel 3+, and Samsung Galaxy S20+ support eSIM. Check Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM — if the option appears, you're set.
Pick a plan and order online
Browse our Telkomsel plans, choose your data size and validity, and select eSIM as your delivery type. We'll ask for your arrival date in Bali. We use your arrival date to time your eSIM activation — this is what keeps it live when you land.
Pay online via PayPal
Pay securely with PayPal — credit card, debit card, or PayPal balance accepted. No Indonesian bank account or local payment method needed.
Upload your documents
After payment, you'll receive a secure upload link by email. You'll upload three photos: your passport data page, your device IMEI (dial *#06# on your phone), and your device About screen showing IMEI and SIM info. We'll verify everything and contact you if anything is unclear. You'll receive a confirmation email once your documents are verified.
We verify your documents, then send your QR code
Once your documents are verified, we email your eSIM QR code immediately. We require verified documents before releasing the QR — this is how we ensure the legal registration is in order before you install anything on your device.
Install the eSIM profile before you fly
Go to Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Use QR Code and scan. This downloads the eSIM profile onto your device — you need a stable wifi or data connection for it to complete. The eSIM won't be active yet, just installed and ready. We recommend doing this 1–2 days before departure, at home or your hotel — not at the airport. Each QR is single-use; don't scan it more than once.
We activate your eSIM ~24 hours before you land
This timing is intentional. Once activated, Indonesian carrier rules require the eSIM to see device activity within 48 hours — if the device sits idle too long, the IMEI can be flagged and blocked. We activate close to your arrival so you land with a live, working connection.
Land in Bali, switch on your eSIM
When you land, go to Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data) and enable your eSIM — the profile is already installed. Your phone connects to Telkomsel within seconds. No scanning, no store visit, no setup. You're online.
We're here until you're connected
We're not just selling you a SIM card. Our goal is to make sure you're actually online in Bali. eSIM won't install? Something looks wrong? We'll stay with you until it's sorted.
Common questions about Bali eSIM
Which phones support eSIM?
iPhone XS, XR, and all models released after (including SE 2nd gen). Google Pixel 3 and later. Samsung Galaxy S20, Note 20, Z Fold 2, and newer. Most Android flagships from 2021 onwards also support eSIM — check your phone's spec sheet if unsure.
Does my phone need to be unlocked?
Yes. If your phone is carrier-locked (common with phones bought on contract), it won't accept a foreign eSIM profile. Check with your carrier before ordering — unlocking is usually free once your contract is paid off.
Why do you need my passport and IMEI?
Indonesian Ministry of Communication regulations (Permenkominfo) require all SIM cards and eSIMs issued to foreign nationals to be registered with a valid passport. Your device IMEI must also be recorded in Indonesia's national device database. This is mandatory — it applies to every local carrier. We handle the entire registration process; you just upload the photos.
Is this document requirement unique to GetBaliSIM?
No — this is a government requirement. Any legitimate local Indonesian eSIM or SIM card provider will ask for the same documents. Some providers may ask for additional information. If a seller doesn't ask for any documents, they may not be legally registering your SIM, which can lead to it being blocked.
Why do you activate the eSIM 24 hours before arrival, not when I order?
You'll get your QR code as soon as your documents are verified — scan it to install the profile on your device well before you travel. But we hold off on activating it on Telkomsel's network until ~24 hours before you land. Once activated, Indonesian carrier rules require the eSIM to see device activity within 48 hours. If we activated it weeks before your trip and your phone sat idle, the IMEI could be flagged and blocked. Timing it close to your arrival keeps everything clean.
How long does verification take after I upload documents?
Verification usually completes within a few hours on business days (8am–8pm WITA). We'll email you once your documents are approved and let you know your scheduled activation time.
Can I keep my home SIM active at the same time?
Yes — most modern phones support dual SIM (physical SIM + eSIM active simultaneously). You can keep your home number for calls while using the Bali eSIM for data.
What if the QR code doesn't install correctly?
Contact us by email or WhatsApp — we'll troubleshoot with you. Common issues: phone is carrier-locked, the eSIM slot already has an active profile, or the QR was scanned more than once (each QR is single-use). We can reissue a new code if needed.
What if my eSIM doesn't connect when I land?
First: go to Settings → Cellular and make sure your eSIM is enabled — it won't turn on automatically. Give it 2–3 minutes; Telkomsel sometimes takes a moment to register the device. Still nothing? Contact us immediately by email at hello@getbalisim.com or WhatsApp. We'll diagnose — common causes are airplane mode still on, carrier propagation delay, or the eSIM not set as the data line. Worst case we reissue a new QR code. We don't consider the job done until you're actually online.
Prefer a physical SIM card? We deliver to hotels and villas across Bali — same registration, no QR code needed. SIM card guide →
