Bought an eSIM for your Bali trip? Great choice — no physical SIM swapping, no waiting in line at the airport. Just scan, activate, and you're online. This guide walks you through the entire process on both iPhone and Android.
The Short Answer
Open your phone's cellular settings, scan the QR code from your confirmation email, and follow the prompts to install the eSIM profile. Do this before your flight — you need a stable Wi-Fi connection to download the profile. Once installed, submit your passport, IMEI, and About screen photos so we can register your line — we activate it ~24 hours before your arrival in Bali. When you land, just enable the eSIM in settings and you're online.
Before You Start
Make sure you have the following ready:
- A compatible device — most phones from 2020 onwards support eSIM. Dial *#06# on your phone to check if an EID number appears. If it does, your phone supports eSIM.
- A stable Wi-Fi connection — you'll need internet to download the eSIM profile.
- Your eSIM QR code — we'll email this right after your payment is confirmed.
- Save the QR code — screenshot it or save the image so you can scan it from your phone.
How to Activate on iPhone (iOS)
Step 1: Open Settings
Go to Settings on your iPhone.
Step 2: Go to Cellular
Tap Cellular (or Mobile Data depending on your region).
Step 3: Add eSIM
Tap Add eSIM.
Step 4: Scan the QR Code
- If you have the QR code on another device or printed, point your camera at it.
- If you have a screenshot on the same phone (iOS 17+), tap Open Photos and select the screenshot.
Step 5: Confirm the Plan
Confirm to add the plan. Your phone will download and install the eSIM profile.
Step 6: Label Your Plan
Choose a label for the new plan (e.g., "Bali eSIM" or "Travel") and tap Continue.
Step 7: Set Default Line
When asked, keep your primary number as the default line for calls and messages.
Step 8: Wait for Activation, Then Enable Data
Leave the eSIM installed but don't switch your data line to it yet. Once we email you that your eSIM is activated, go to Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data, select your new eSIM plan, and make sure Data Roaming is turned on.
How to Activate on Android
Step 1: Open Settings
Go to Settings on your Android device.
Step 2: Go to Connections
Tap Connections (or Network & Internet on some devices).
Step 3: SIM Card Manager
Select SIM Card Manager (or SIM & Network).
Step 4: Add Mobile Plan
Tap Add Mobile Plan (or Add eSIM / Download SIM).
Step 5: Scan the QR Code
- Point your camera at the QR code to scan it.
- If you have a screenshot (Android 13+), tap the Photos icon in the scan screen and select the image.
- Tap OK or Confirm when prompted.
Step 6: Installation Complete
Your eSIM profile will finish downloading and installing. This may take a minute.
Step 7: Wait for Activation, Then Enable Data
Leave the eSIM installed but don't switch your data line to it yet. Once we email you that your eSIM is activated, go to Settings → Connections → SIM Card Manager → Mobile Data, select your new eSIM, and make sure Data Roaming is turned on.
QR Code Not Scanning?
If your camera won't scan the QR code, try these first:
- Use another device — open the QR image on a laptop or tablet, then scan from your phone.
- Increase brightness — make the QR as bright as possible on screen before scanning.
- Use a QR scanner app — some phones handle eSIM QR codes better with a dedicated scanner app like Google Lens.
If none of these work, use the manual activation method below.
Manual Activation (No QR Code Scan Required)
If you can't scan the QR code, you can activate your eSIM by entering the details manually. You'll find your SM-DP+ address and activation code in your order email.
iPhone — Manual Activation
- Go to Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM
- Tap Enter Details Manually (at the bottom of the screen)
- Enter the SM-DP+ address from your email
- Tap Next — your phone will connect to the server
- Enter the activation code when prompted
- Confirm to add the plan
Android — Manual Activation
Steps vary slightly by manufacturer, but the general flow is:
- Go to Settings → Connections → SIM Card Manager → Add Mobile Plan
- Tap Enter Activation Code or Add Manually
- Enter the SM-DP+ address (also called "SM-DP+ address" or "Server address")
- Enter the activation code
- Tap Connect or Confirm
Tip: Copy-paste the activation code directly from your email to avoid typos — it's case-sensitive.
Troubleshooting Tips
- eSIM not appearing after install? Restart your phone.
- No data connection? Double-check that you selected the eSIM for cellular data and that Data Roaming is enabled.
- QR code not scanning? Make sure the image is clear and well-lit. Try the manual activation method using the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your email.
- "Cannot add plan" error? Your device may not support eSIM, or your carrier may have a lock. Contact us via WhatsApp and we'll help.
When Should I Install My eSIM?
You can install the eSIM before your flight — as long as you have Wi-Fi to download the profile. We activate your line ~24 hours before you arrive in Bali, so installing early doesn't start your validity clock early — your days count from activation, not installation.
We recommend installing it a day before you travel so everything is ready when you land in Bali.
