How to Stay Connected in Bali: SIM Card, eSIM & Coverage Guide

Skip the airport SIM queue. Get a local SIM card or eSIM for Bali — delivered to your hotel or activated before you land.

Most travelers land in Bali and immediately scramble for a SIM card — queuing at the airport, negotiating prices, hoping the shop staff speaks English. There's a simpler way. Get a local eSIM or SIM card before you travel and step off the plane already connected.

The Short Answer

Order a Telkomsel eSIM or SIM card from GetBaliSIM before your trip. eSIM is activated ~24 hours before you land — install the QR code at home, arrive connected. Physical SIM is delivered to your hotel in Bali with free in-person registration. Both give you a real Indonesian +62 number on Telkomsel, Indonesia's largest network.

eSIM vs Physical SIM Card

An eSIM is a digital SIM that you activate on your phone without needing a physical card. It's instant — you can set it up before you even board your flight. A physical SIM card, on the other hand, gives you a local Indonesian number for calls and SMS, plus it works on any unlocked phone including older models that don't support eSIM.

Why Telkomsel?

Telkomsel is Indonesia's largest mobile operator with the widest 4G/LTE coverage across Bali. Whether you're in busy Seminyak, remote Sidemen, or on a boat to Nusa Penida, Telkomsel consistently provides the most reliable signal. This is why we exclusively offer Telkomsel packages.

How Much Data Do You Need?

For a typical tourist trip: 1-2 GB per day covers Maps navigation, social media, messaging, and light video calls. A 7-day trip needs roughly 8-15 GB. If you're working remotely with video calls and streaming, go for 30 GB or more. Browse plans: Bali eSIM or Bali SIM card with hotel delivery.

How to Activate Your eSIM

Activating an eSIM takes just a few minutes. After purchasing, upload your passport and IMEI photos — we verify your documents and send your QR code by email. On iPhone, go to Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Use QR Code. On Android, go to Settings → Network → SIMs → Add eSIM. Scan the QR code and your eSIM profile is installed. We recommend doing this before your flight so you're connected the moment you land.

Physical SIM Card Delivery

If you prefer a physical SIM card, we offer free delivery to your hotel or accommodation in Kuta, Denpasar, Canggu, Ubud, Sukawati, Dalung, and Tanah Lot. Just provide your address during checkout and we'll deliver it to you — ready to use. For other areas, contact us via WhatsApp and we'll work something out.

Coverage Across Bali

Telkomsel 4G coverage is excellent throughout southern Bali (Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Uluwatu), Ubud, and Sanur. You'll also get solid coverage in Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, and along the main roads to North Bali. Remote mountain areas and some parts of the western coast may drop to 3G, but you'll still have a usable connection.

Document Requirements

Getting a real Indonesian SIM — eSIM or physical — requires passport registration under Indonesian law (Permenkominfo). For eSIM orders, you upload three photos after payment: your passport data page, your IMEI (dial *#06#), and your phone's About screen. We submit everything to Telkomsel. For SIM card delivery, just bring your passport to the meeting — our staff handles registration on the spot.

This is not unique to GetBaliSIM — every legitimate Indonesian carrier requires the same. Any seller that skips this step is not legally registering your SIM.
