Running low on data halfway through your Bali trip? It happens — especially if you've been sharing your hotspot, making video calls, or uploading photos to social media. The good news is topping up your Telkomsel SIM is straightforward. Here are your options.
Option 1: Top Up Through GetBaliSIM (Easiest)
If you bought your SIM or eSIM from us, the easiest way to get more data is through our top-up service.
- Go to our top-up page
- Choose your data amount
- Enter your Indonesian phone number at checkout
- Pay via PayPal or credit card
- We process the top-up and your data is added
No need to find a shop, no need to navigate Indonesian-language apps. We handle it for you.
Option 2: MyTelkomsel App
Telkomsel's official app works but is primarily in Indonesian. Here's how to navigate it:
- Download MyTelkomsel from the App Store or Google Play
- Log in with your Telkomsel phone number (you'll receive an OTP via SMS)
- On the home screen, look for Beli Paket (Buy Package) or the Shop section
- Browse available data packages — look for Internet or Data categories
- Select a package and pay using your credit balance or available payment methods
The app frequently offers promotional packages that aren't available elsewhere. However, the interface can be confusing if you don't read Indonesian, and payment options for foreign cards may be limited.
Option 3: USSD Codes (No App Needed)
You can check your balance and buy data packages using dial codes:
- Check remaining data: Dial *888# and follow the prompts
- Check credit balance: Dial *888# then select the balance option
- Buy data packages: Dial *363# for the package menu
The menus are mostly in Indonesian, so this works best if you have a basic understanding of the language or can use a translation app on another device while navigating the prompts.
Option 4: Buy Credit at a Local Shop
Physical top-up vouchers are sold nearly everywhere in Bali:
- Convenience stores — Indomaret, Alfamart, Circle K (look for the Telkomsel logo)
- Small warungs and kiosks — many have "PULSA" signs out front
- Phone shops — especially in tourist areas
How to buy at a shop:
- Tell the shopkeeper you need "Pulsa Telkomsel" and the amount you want
- Common amounts: Rp 25,000 / Rp 50,000 / Rp 100,000
- Pay in cash (Indonesian Rupiah)
- You'll receive an SMS confirming the credit was added
- Then dial *363# to convert credit into a data package
Important: "Pulsa" is phone credit, not data. After buying pulsa, you need to use it to purchase a data package through the USSD menu or the MyTelkomsel app. Some shops can also directly add a data package for you — just ask.
How Much Data Do I Need for the Rest of My Trip?
A rough guide:
| Usage | Daily data |
|---|---|
| Light (maps, messaging, email) | 500 MB - 1 GB |
| Medium (social media, photos, calls) | 1 - 2 GB |
| Heavy (video calls, streaming, hotspot) | 3 - 5 GB |
Multiply by the number of days left in your trip, and you'll know roughly how much to top up.
How to Check Your Remaining Data
Before topping up, check how much data you have left:
On iPhone: Go to Settings → Cellular to see total data used (not remaining — but useful as a reference).
On Android: Go to Settings → Connections → Data Usage.
Via Telkomsel: Dial *888# — this shows your remaining data balance and expiry date.
Via MyTelkomsel app: Open the app and your remaining quota is shown on the home screen.
Tips to Avoid Running Out
- Download offline maps in Google Maps before heading to remote areas — this alone can save hundreds of megabytes
- Use hotel/cafe Wi-Fi for large uploads, downloads, and streaming
- Turn off auto-play on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok
- Disable background app refresh for apps you don't actively use
- Choose a larger package upfront — it's always cheaper per GB to buy more at once than to top up multiple times
